We recommend this frame if you only have 2"x 4' rafters, if larger rafters you should consider steel support brackets, over using a single eye screw on each side, relying on small wood threads supporting you and your swing. Steel brackets will outlast all the swings you build or buy from hobby makers or commercially made. This frame below may save your porch roof by building a simple strong and economical frame, also it can help in placing your swing just about anywhere on your porch by simply notching the top corners of the 4" X 4"s and not having to limit hanging your swing just at the ends or sides of your porch. Set them in the corner facing out 45 degrees which may give you a better view of things. |

Whether anyone as ever told you or not, you should never hang a porch swing from your porch roof rafters, unless your rafters are 4" X 6" or larger. In time it could cause costly damage to your roof, with 200 to 600 pounds pulling down on one or two rafters, tearing it away from the rest of the house, causing leaks.
